Pussy Pin

2024, copper, brass, sterling silver, amethyst

Why is a woman’s body inherently political?

Societal norms and legal systems often seek to regulate and control women’s bodies, making them a focal point of political struggle. Issues like reproductive rights, gender roles, sexualization, and representation continue to affect women and femme-identifying people daily.

For this pin, I drew inspiration from the 2017 Women’s March and the Pussyhat Project™, a movement that used humor and accessibility to unite feminists and raise awareness about women’s rights. Similarly, political pins and buttons have long been tools for solidarity and activism.

My brooch features an abstract vagina etched in copper with a silver bezel and an amethyst clitoris. It celebrates the beauty, power, and transformative nature of women’s bodies, creating a piece that’s both provocative and symbolic. When flipped, the brooch also evokes imagery of a swaddled woman or a birthing mother, touching on themes of protection, strength, and transformation.

Stamped on the back with the reclaimed term “cunty,” the brooch redefines misogynistic language into a badge of pride, power, and unapologetic femininity. Women exist in diverse forms, and this piece honors their individuality, resilience, and voices.

All hand fabricated.
